Support and participation for sustainable resource use and education at Parkway North occurs at all levels. February - Shining Rivers Waldorf School
Kids and teachers at Shining Rivers Waldorf School go outside to participate in activities such as making beeswax candles.   MORE INFORMATION View More Photos from Shining Rivers Waldorf School February Green School of the Month Award Congratulations to February's Green School of the Month Shining Rivers Waldorf School Congratulations to all the students and faculty at Shining Rivers Waldorf School for being this month's Green School of the month based on all of their green initiatives. The Waldorf Philosophy emphasizes a love of knowledge, art, music, seasons, and all things outdoor. The school is surrounded by a playground where there are tree trunks, sand, ropes and natural areas to play. Classrooms are filled with natural toys and materials. All snacks are organic and the kids are taught an appreciation of the seasons and love for nature. There is a garden and outdoor play is encouraged. December/January - Patrick Henry Downtown Academy
Principle Esperansa Veal, of Patrick Henry Downtown Academy, is presented the Green School of the Month Award, by EcoLifeSTL's, Cyndee Blank. One of the initiatives that Patrick Henry Downtown Academy has put into place is starting a composting and gardening program. The students will use the homegrown vegetables from their garden at a nearby senior center. The school was chosen for this award because of the numerous green activities they are engaged in. It is their goal is to become the first urban GREEN Model Pilot School. Some of their initiatives include: Removing asphalt in the playground area and replacing it with dirt and grass. This is a monumental achievement especially for a city school where it is common to have no or very little green area. November - Reed School
Reed Elementary is presented the first ever, Green School of the Month Award, by EcoLifeSTL's, Cyndee Blank. Reed Elementary's Waste Free Wednesdays, is one of the many ways, that the school has shown steps towards becoming greener. The program encourages students and staff to pack waste-free lunches. Members of Ladue School District's Reed School Sustainability Commitee received the first ever Green School of the Month Award from EcoLifeSTL.com. Reed’s Sustainability Committee, formed two years ago, raises awareness about the earth’s limited resources and promotes practices aimed at protecting those resources at school and beyond.
