Your Household Can Make a Difference by Participating in:

  1. Curbside and other municipal household recycling programs
  2. Donation of appliances, electronics and other devices, as well as clothing and other materials for reuse by people and organizations in need
  3. Composting kitchen scraps (no meat or bones), along with yard waste
  4. Considering repair of materials when possible - instead of purchasing new items

Recycling @ Home

Recycling services and drop-off bins are becoming staples of communities of every size as municipalities and citizens realize the vital importance of making a concerted effort to conserve our natural resources.

From 1990 to 2005, Americans have reduced solid waste going into landfills by 9 million tons.

According to the EPA, household recycling is on the rise, with more than 32 percent of municipal solid wastes being recovered for reuse versus going into landfills – a rate that everyone agrees is improving but is still too low.

In addition to the good environmental and economic sense of recycling (one aluminum soft drink can may be recycled three times), think about the other factors involved in transporting waste to landfills, including fuel usage and emissions.

Challenge your family to think before throwing things away. What can we recycle or give to people in need? Can the item be composted? How can we reduce our overall consumption footprint?
