Sustainability

"Sustainability ... is the capacity to endure. For humans it is the potential for long-term improvements in wellbeing, which in turn depend on the wellbeing of the natural world and the responsible use of natural resources. As the earth’s human population has increased, natural ecosystems have declined and changes in the balance of natural cycles has had a negative impact on both humans and other living systems."

Resource Conservation

Scientific study has supplied us with abundant evidence that humanity is living unsustainably. Water, energy and natural habitats are being overburdened or completely used up. Recycling programs are not as widespread as necessary. Considering ozone depletion, overflowing landfills, contaminated water and fuel scarcity, conservation is key to helping sustain our planet's resources.

Only 24% of plastic bottles produced are recycled. [Source] Every day, Americans use 398 more gallons of water than should be reasonably allocated to them, and the United States uses 25% of the world’s energy while only having 4.7% of its population.

In order to help reduce the impact you are having on the environment, become aware of ways you can conserve and responsibly use or consume energy, water and other natural resources. Turn off lights, carpool, take shorter showers, buy recycled material and do some recycling yourself. Conservation of our resources is the only way to "meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs". [Source]
