Did you know that it was International Woman’s Day yesterday on March 8th? If you were not aware of that like me well we have something to learn. This day takes place every year on March 8th and this year is the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day!
The 2010 slogan for the day was “Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities: Progress for All.” I think this is a wonderful slogan for this year’s event! In addition, did you know that on 19 September 1893 New Zealand became the first country in the world to give women the right to vote? How amazing is that! Though besides the history and events that took place on Monday. There have been many women who have helped the Environmental and Green movement in the U.S. and around the world. Of course we have the very famous
Rachel Carson who wrote Silent Spring and is said to have helped start the movement with the publican of her book. When it comes to current woman we have
Caroline Lucas in Great Britain who is leader of the Green Party in and the first Green MP in Britain also.
Here are some websites I found that also celebrate woman and the environment:
1.
Going Green: Women and the Environment at
Women Make Movies films by and about women.
2.
The Green Belt Movement whose mission it is: "to mobilize community consciousness for self-determination, equity, improved livelihoods and security, and environmental conservation."
3.
The Eco Mom Alliance "a global organization of mothers working collectively to reduce global warming and propel an environmentally, socially and economically sustainable future.
4.
Audubon Women In Conservation Program "was created for girls and women to discover the world of conservation and connect with the best and brightest women leaders in the environmental movement."
